While large companies like Equinor and Kongsberg Gruppen top the list of the most popular companies among newly graduated masters of engineering, Frikk Knutsen chose Bluegreen instead.
"I was attracted by the fact that Bluegreen is a small company in strong growth. This means you get a steep learning curve, with a lot of responsibility in a short time," explains Frikk.
Frikk was among the last in Grenland to take the TAF high-school program – technical general studies. There he earned a trade certificate in industrial mechanics alongside his study competence and went on to complete a three-year engineering degree in Porsgrunn. Then there were two years of master's studies in Trondheim, in mechanical engineering.
Even with a brand-new master's degree in his pocket, Frikk does not dream of sitting in the office all day.
"The combination of 'overalls' and office work is ideal for me," says Frikk. "Here at Bluegreen, I get to be outside, close to production in addition to sitting in the office doing calculations, working with documentation, etc.
"It is incredibly exciting to be able to follow a project from A to Z, as I do here with the FishGlobe construction."
Frikk's first day of work was June 17th. Shortly after, many of his new colleagues went on vacation.
"I was definitely thrown into it," says Frikk with a smile. "But it's fun! I've learned a lot in just the 5.5 weeks I've been here. And, of course, I still have much more to learn."
Frikk is responsible for overseeing the production of panels that will be used on the FishGlobes.
"Right now, we are making panels for the technical deck that will be above the fish volume in the FishGlobe. We're working on the 10K first, then the 3.5K. The enormous 30K will be built last."
COO Sondre Thorsen is thrilled with the recruitment:
“We are extremely satisfied with Frikk,” says Sondre. “We love those who are proactive and take responsibility – as Frikk has already shown in the short time he has been here. His background, with a combination of a trade certificate and higher education, is ideal for us.”
