On Tuesday, August 19, Bluegreen, Fishglobe Technologies, and Ovum hosted a fully packed mini-seminar at Aqua Nor 2025 — and the response exceeded all expectations. More than 150 people had set aside their afternoon to hear the latest updates on floating closed containment systems, with strong engagement from start to finish.
Eivind Helland, CEO of Blue Planet, opened the seminar with a clear message: Floating closed containment systems are no longer a future concept — the technology is ready, and the market is beginning to mature. With both political incentives and growing global interest, the industry is on the brink of a breakthrough.
Next, Bluegreen, Fishglobe Technologies, and Ovum presented their solutions — along with concrete data and operational experience:
Marine Donut, with a volume of 22,000 m³, has now completed two full-scale grow-out cycles with excellent results. The latest cycle concluded with the safe and efficient harvesting of nearly 1,000 tonnes of fish — without lice treatment, showing very low mortality, strong growth, and high fish welfare. The system has already been further developed into Marine Donut 2.0 based on real-world experience, and plans are in place to build six units in just 21 months.
FishGlobe reported a total of 20 completed post-smolt batches, comprising 5.5 million fish. The largest model, at 30,000 m³, is currently under construction, with impressive results including high stocking density (up to 70 kg/m³), zero escapes, no lice treatments, and excellent growth. With three standardized models and ambitions to deliver one unit per month, the company is ready for global scale-up.
Egget, developed by Ovum, shared fresh performance data that caught the audience’s attention: a feed conversion ratio of 0.86–0.92, mortality rates as low as 1.2%, and growth rates of 120–130%. With low energy use (1.4 kWh/kg) and a strong environmental profile, Egget is well positioned for its next growth phase — including plans to build a 20,000 m³ unit.
With updated regulations, growing demand, and documented results, it’s time to take floating closed systems from niche to mainstream. After more than a decade of innovation, prototyping, and testing, floating closed containment is no longer “on the horizon.” The solutions are here, the technology works, and the suppliers are ready to scale.
A warm thank-you to everyone who joined us and contributed to an inspiring and insightful afternoon!
