At Hvaler, Bluegreen is currently undertaking an exciting and important project: extending the lifespan – and improving the hygiene standards – of an older elevated reservoir using PE lining. The client is Park & Anlegg AS, and the welding work is being carried out on site by Bluegreen’s experienced plastic welders.
The elevated reservoir in question measures over 60 meters in circumference and 18 meters in diameter, with both floor and ceiling made of concrete. It has supplied drinking water to the Hvaler area for many years, but time – and increasingly strict requirements for water quality – have taken their toll on the structure.
The solution? A new internal lining made of polyethylene (PE) – a hygienic, durable material well suited for this type of rehabilitation.
Bluegreen is responsible for welding together the PE plates that Park & Anlegg is mounting to the walls. The plates are 4 mm thick, supplied by GPA, and will cover the walls, floor, and six concrete columns in the tank. A total of 32 welds will be completed around the tank walls, in addition to welding the floor and columns.
The job will take approximately 5–6 weeks and is being carried out by two of Bluegreen’s experienced plastic welders.
"This is a great example of how PE can be used to upgrade existing infrastructure – quickly, efficiently, and with high quality. There are many such elevated reservoirs in Norway, and the need for rehabilitation is growing," says Erik Klepp, Project Manager at Bluegreen.
PE lining is a gentle and effective alternative to full renovation of aging concrete reservoirs. It creates a smooth, easy-to-clean surface that helps ensure a safe water supply for many years to come.
"We’re proud to contribute with plastic welding expertise in this project and thank Park & Anlegg for the assignment," Erik concludes.
