Bluegreen is responsible for lining the fish tanks at Grieg Seafood's massive land-based aquaculture facility for post-smolt in Adamselv, Finnmark.
The new post-smolt aquaculture facility has a price tag of NOK 1.1 billion. It is expected to produce 3,000 tons of post-smolt starting in 2026 and is connected to Grieg Seafood's existing smolt facility in Adamselv.
A land-based post-smolt facility means that a larger part of the fish's production cycle occurs on land, reducing the time the fish spend in sea cages. Consequently, the fish are less exposed to diseases, sea lice, and other marine hazards. Both fish welfare and lice control are improved, according to a press release from Grieg Seafood.
"We work extensively to improve fish health, welfare, and biology. Post-smolt will be an important tool to achieve all these things. Our goal is to grow and develop in a sustainable manner with a lower footprint," says Vidar Aamo Nikolaisen, Regional Director at Grieg Seafood Finnmark, to Ilaks.
The land-based aquaculture facility will consist of two post-smolt modules, each with a feeding capacity of 8,000 kg per day and a tank volume of 9,200 m³. Pure Salmon Technology, an expert in RAS technology, is the general contractor for the job.
We have been engaged by Overhalla Betong to perform the lining of the fish tanks.
“ We chose to collaborate with Bluegreen on this project based on the strong partnership we have had on previous projects, and because Bluegreen is a professional and reliable partner to work with on such complex facilities. Odd Andre Devik Amdal, project manager Overhalla Betong
"We are extremely pleased to be chosen as a partner for this groundbreaking aquaculture facility. Fish welfare and sustainability have been our focus areas since the start, and we support all initiatives and concepts that reduce the time fish are exposed in the sea," says Nils-Johan Tufte at Bluegreen.
The two post-smolt modules will receive fish from Grieg Seafood's existing facility at Adamselv, where the smolt will grow from 100 grams to 1,000 grams. The project has a construction period of two years with the first post-smolt planned to be released into the sea in 2026.
