At Lagarlif, Bluegreen met with government representatives, investors, and industry professionals – and the response was clearly positive.
In October, Geir Andresen and Per Håkon Stenhaug packed their bags and headed for Iceland – more specifically, to the country’s largest aquaculture conference, Lagarlif. The goal? To showcase the Marine Donut, present our expertise in land-based aquaculture facilities, and build connections in a market that is truly on the rise.
And the response? Very promising.
“Iceland has everything it needs: big ambitions, rapid growth, and a strong interest in technology that can support sustainable aquaculture. We clearly saw that solutions like the Marine Donut spark curiosity,” says Geir, Sales and Marketing Director at Bluegreen.
During several eventful conference days, the Bluegreen team met a wide range of stakeholders:
The Prime Minister’s Office and government representatives – where we highlighted both our own technology and closed containment systems as an important concept for the future.
The Icelandic Food Safety Authority – discussions with their leadership and technical experts on regulations and biological considerations.
Scientists and experts – meetings with leading biologists and lawyers specializing in aquaculture.
Industry representatives and investors – conversations with executives and potential partners in the aquaculture sector.
“We experienced that both Bluegreen – and Norway – have a strong reputation. When we explain how the Marine Donut works in practice, people listen,” says Per Håkon from BlueIQ.
The newly implemented Norwegian aquaculture regulation – and the fact that the Marine Donut meets all requirements – adds extra weight to our conversations.
Already after the conference, we conducted a detailed review of the system for a potential Icelandic customer. Particularly within post-smolt production, we see that the Marine Donut is a perfect match for Iceland’s needs.

The trip to Iceland is part of Bluegreen’s long-term international strategy. With projects like FishGlobe, Marine Donut, and several large deliveries to land-based facilities behind us, we are now building further – on competence, culture, and a strong drive to create something new.
“I want to extend a big thank you to all of you working on our sites, in production, at the yard, and in the workshop. Your work makes it possible for us to showcase Norwegian plastic technology and the Bluegreen DNA internationally. We’ve sparked interest in Iceland – and we’re excited for what comes next,” says Geir.
