Meet Ina – Bluegreen’s First Marine Biologist

This week, we welcomed an exciting and important new addition to our team – marine biologist Ina Kristine Andersen!

A Key Step Toward Ensuring Fish Welfare and Environmental Quality in Every Project

As Bluegreen’s very first biologist, Ina marks a new chapter in our commitment to sustainable aquaculture solutions.

“Having a marine biologist on the team is a big step forward. As we bring the Marine Donut technology to new markets, we must adapt it to different ecosystems and environmental conditions. Ensuring optimal fish welfare at all times requires this kind of in-house expertise,” says CTO Henrik Thorstensen.

From Sea Turtles in Australia to Closed Pens in Norway

Ina Kristine Andersen is 27 years old and from Skien. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kristiansand and a master’s degree in marine biology from Australia, where she also worked at a sea turtle research center, gaining hands-on experience with water quality and marine ecosystems.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the ocean, so marine biology was a natural choice for me. Studying in Australia gave me the opportunity to combine science, travel, and new perspectives. I did quite a bit of diving on coral reefs – it was incredibly beautiful,” she says.

After a few years abroad, Ina recently returned home to Skien – and her path to Bluegreen was a bit serendipitous:

“I was looking for a relevant job nearby and got a tip to reach out to Bluegreen. I just asked straight up: ‘Do you need a marine biologist?’ – and then I got the job! It’s amazing to land a full-time position that’s so relevant to my education – and in my hometown, no less.”

Bringing Biology into Tech Development

Ina joined the company this week and has already been warmly welcomed, with a full tour and introduction to current projects. She will work closely with engineers, the design team, and international partners – including in Canada – to ensure that Bluegreen’s technologies always prioritize fish health and biological factors.

“I’m excited to bring the biological perspective into the mix – and serve as a bridge between biology and technology. There’s a lot of exciting work going on here, and I can’t wait to get started!”

In her free time, Ina enjoys working out, hiking, spending time with friends – and traveling far and wide. With a master’s degree from Australia on her CV, there’s no doubt she’s up for an adventure.

We’re proud and excited to have Ina on the team – and we’re looking forward to the road ahead!
