Guro Eilefsen is an apprentice in the field of plastic mechanics here at Bluegreen. The cheerful 23-year-old from Drangedal studied to be a school teacher for 1.5 years before she decided that a physical job suited her better.
"I enjoy being on the 'floor'," says Guro. "As an apprentice at Bluegreen, I have an active and varied workday, and I get to use my body."
Guro is halfway through her apprenticeship. Next summer, she will have her certificate as a plastic mechanic.
Currently, she is working in the workshop, welding pipes and pipe parts, and water chambers in PE. Eventually, she may be assigned to other projects.
"I think it seems fun to travel, so the fact that Bluegreen has assignments around Norway and abroad is positive. And who knows, maybe there will be construction of a new Marine Donut or other large structures soon...?"
The plastics industry is still male-dominated, so Guro is used to being around the guys.
"The work environment at Bluegreen is very good. There was a bit of an adjustment at the start, but then you get used to the jargon and become good at tuning out," says Guro jokingly.
"And then there's Ida too, it's nice that there are several girls here."
Guro would definitely recommend the plastic mechanic profession to other girls.
"Compared to, for example, the healthcare sector, you avoid shift work, you get opportunities for travel, good development opportunities, and a nice and varied workday. Time flies at work!"
